What is the Preschool Transition Program?
Our Preschool Transition class for young children is developmentally age-appropriate, stimulating, and exploratory. This is a child’s first step to an educational and communal environment. Led by expert teachers, the class features engaging and fun individual and group activities – from imaginative play, dance, to story-time, and even science projects. Each month, we explore a different monthly theme. This is a wonderful stepping-stone to preschool or kindergarten.
Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. We are happy to change diapers during class time. We ask that the parents support the teachers and do a diaper change before drop off, however, all children will be offered a diaper change or toilet opportunity during center time as part of our routine. In addition, if you are starting the potty training at home, we are happy to help support you in class, just talk to us so we can align with your philosophy. Parents are requested to bring diapers in the child’s backpack for each class.
What is the goal of your program?
We strongly believe that the social-emotional development of the child is a critical component of their future success in school and in life. Students who can sit through circle time, attend to a task, share with friends and be good citizens fare very well in the school setting. We focus on all of that in our program through our proven system.
What is the best way to make the transition smooth?
Depending on the temperament of your child and your feelings, we can build a customized transition plan that suits you and your child. We also ask that you follow a consistent schedule for the first few weeks of the program, try not to miss any days, and also work with the teachers to make sure that we all on the same page with drop off and pick up. Finally – many children cry, we know that. Leaving mommy and daddy is not easy and we value that attachment. We work with each child in a manner that suits their personality to get them comfortable with us as teachers, our facility and our program. One tip- make your goodbyes short and sweet, but do not leave without saying goodbye.
What will my first day look like?
Once you work out a start date, we ask that you come early that day, that you do the transition board with your child, and join us during the free-play part of the program. Sometimes kids are very excited for their first day because it’s a novelty, so we can gauge how your child is doing and transition accordingly. Each child is different. Once you say goodbye (please say bye and not walk out – but also do not linger). You are welcome to come back early on your child’s first day to pick them up. Transition is a fine balance and if done right – can make future transitions amazing for you and your child!
What curriculum do you follow in class?
We follow a very play-based & structured approach in our curriculum, although it is play-based we do follow a particular (tried & proven) routine & structure. We know for a fact that kids learn best through play and we want to make this a fun experience for them. Our class format is as follows:
Free Play, Opening Circle (Hello, Finger-Plays, Music), Story Time, Art Time, Center Time that focuses on sensory development, fine motor development, and gross mother development and other highlight activities that change on a regular basis. Snack/Lunchtime, & Goodbye circle.
Please refer to our communication board to know what we are focusing on each week so that you can continue to conversation and fun at home!
What is your discipline policy?
We follow a positive discipline policy, we acknowledge, redirect and provide positive feedback in our approach.
What should I do if my child cries?
Most children do cry, it’s normal. With our program and with the support of teachers, most of our kiddos stop crying within the first few classes – as long as you are consistent in your attendance.
What is your success rate?
We have been doing this program for 10 years and we follow and revise our structure to make sure our students get the best from what we have to offer. Visit our testimonials on our website and feel free to ask us for any referrals.
Do you have flexible scheduling options?
Yes, You can do 1, 2, or 4 Days per Week! You can pay Monthly, buy a 10 Pack, or Daily Rate! Please, note that to build structure & routine, we ask that new students enroll in the 2-day/2 hour program first and then adjust the schedule accordingly.
Are you open year-round?
We are open year-round and have rolling admissions. We do, however, observe all major holidays and offer make-ups for the closures if space permits.
