Nazmina Kheraj, President — Nazmina Kheraj has an extensive background in the area of education. In 1998, Nazmina graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Women’s Studies. Since then, in her role as the Chairperson for the Aga Khan Education Board, she has interacted and supported many Middle School & High School students as they prepare their academic profiles in preparation for the college admissions process. Venessa Hall has always had a special place in heart for children. Coming from a large family she had the pleasure of witnessing the growth of her many cousins. When she was 15 years old her parents were surprised to find they were pregnant again. This gave her the rare opportunity to experience the wonders of parenthood, without the true responsibility, and often calls her brother her baby. In her free time she volunteers as a docent at a local aquarium, which enables her to combine her two passions; the ocean and children. Venessa is currently studying nursing in hopes of becoming a Midwife.

Watching them grow up helped her realize how big of a responsibility children are. She has always loved kids and working with them has shown to be a wonderful experience for her. During high school Janett volunteered at preschools and day cares because she always knew she wanted to pursue a career involving children. Being a son of two musicians, Brafo Agindotan has had a strong connection with music from a very young age. His father Najite Agindotan, a master drummer from Nigeria, taught him the traditional rhythms of West Africa since he was a child. His mother Mary MacQueen, a multi-instrumental musician and music teacher for LAUSD, instilled in him the basics of melody/harmony and western music theory. Brafo continued his studies of music through middle and high school, playing percussion in concert band, wind ensemble, and chamber orchestra. At age 14 he joined his fathers 16+ piece afrobeat ensemble Najite & Olokun Prophecy, playing percussion at first but eventually moved to electric bass and took the role of Musical Director of the band. He continued his studies as a music major in college and at that time began working with children and families as a music teacher. For the past decade, Brafo has worked steadily teaching group classes, multi-instrumental private lessons as well as entertaining large groups of people of all ages at parties, and other events, finding great joy in the intrinsic value of his work as a teacher. Having a passion for music of all different cultures, he is currently pursuing a degree in ethnomusicology. Brafo’s goal as a teacher and an artist is to encourage self expression and to help create a more global consciousness and cultural awareness through music. Recently he was able to further these goals abroad when he traveled to his father’s homeland of Lagos, Nigeria to participate in a cultural exchange, leading several music theory workshops, and studying the traditional art and music of the region.
